Brief Description of Division

Marine Acoustic and Instrumentasion

Scope

  1. Study underwater detection and communication systems and their application to determine the characteristics of marine resources and environment,
  2. Develop the design of marine telemetry instruments and systems and their applications.

Research focus

  1. Detection, characterization, quantification, classification of resources and the marine environment using acoustic systems and instrumentation,
  2. Design of instrumentation, robotics and marine telemetry systems,
  3. Design and instrumentation of supporting equipment for aquaculture, capture fisheries and handling of fishery products as well as water quality and health.

Hydrobiology Division

Scope

  1. Study and explore the character of biology, the processes of reproduction and physiology, life cycle and environmental adaptation, behavior and evolution of coastal and marine organisms.
  2. Review and develop the structure, organization and biological productivity of coastal and marine biological natural resources and their relationship to the characteristics and dynamics of the biophysical environment, in the context of sustainable use, restoration and protection of habitats, and enrichment of organisms for the development of biopharmaca and reinforcing foodstuffs.

Remote Sensing and Marine GIS

Scope

  1. Develop remote sensing technology and marine GIS for coastal areas and small islands and monitor climate variability and fisheries resources
  2. Develop sensory algorithm analysis for estimation of coastal and marine environment studies
  3. Developing a marine database and modeling based on data structure and hierarchy and spatial attributes to view connectivity between coastal habitats and the character of the marine environment

Research focus

  1. Pixel and object based benthic habitat mapping
  2. Sensory algorithm analysis for fisheries resources
  3. Utilization of satellite imagery for estimation of the marine environment
  4. Modeling of benthic habitat and coastal ecology
  5. Model analysis for the assessment and determination of conservation areas
  6. WebGIS floating and marine database
  7. Spatial analysis of coastal habitat connectivity and the character of the marine environment

Oceanography Division

Scope

  1. Develop an activity plan, acquire / collect, analyze and interpret oceanographic data (chemical, physical and biological) for the exploration of biological resources and the marine environment.
  2. Able to build and develop hydrodynamic models for predicting the distribution of pollutants in the sea (thermal dispersion, oil spill, sediment plume, etc.) in the desired time frame.
  3. Compile information about oceanographic (physical, chemical and biological) conditions needed to manage, utilize and cultivate marine biological resources.

Research focus

  1. Water mass circulation in shallow seas, straits, bays, estuaries and deep seas
  2. Tidal, rising sea level
  3. Sedimentation, transport sediment and coastal morphology
  4. ARLINDO water mass properties
  5. Flow, temperature, salinity, sea level variability in several locations in the sea in a certain time scale (monthly, seasonal, annually, inter / intra seasonal etc.)
  6. Effect of ENSO / Dipole Mode on oceanographic conditions (sea level, thermocline depth, etc.)
  7. Internal Waves, Refractions and Wave Defractions
  8. Oil Spill Modeling (trajectory model)
  9. Sediment Resuspension and Sedimentation Rate
